Connecting the dots in tailings management.

The Intelligent Miner organised and hosted a workshop in June 2026 with practitioners and experts from various fields within tailings management. Carly Leonida has now created a document that is more than a simple summary or transcription of the conversation. You can watch the event here, and download the document here.

When I first began planning this workshop, the brief was straightforward: explore how the mining industry might rethink tailings and waste. I imagined a discussion about storage technologies, waste valorisation and emerging engineering approaches. But that’s not where the conversation ended up.
